Wicked Delights
Wicked Delights is a rhythm horror game from the team behind Beacon Pines. Rhythm your way through a campy and mysterious visual novel in Wicked Delights. Battle hideous monsters, sling drinks at a cafe, play lead in a heavy metal band, and much more as you unravel the secrets of a supernatural VHS tape.
We hope that fans of Beacon Pines will recognize the care we've put into Wicked Delights. Our goal is to continue with what Beacon Pines does well: beautiful art, catchy tunes, and a compelling story. Then, add elements from another genre we love: rhythm.
History
Hiding Spot Games actually has a long history with rhythm games. Way back in 2011 we started making a wordless rhythm game for the iPad called Ephemerid. It's a short (under an hour) experience full of rhythm games wrapped around an album of original music. Though it wasn't a financial success, it did win some critical accolades, including the 2015 IGF award for Excellence In Audio. In fact, it's still available as a port on Steam.
We've always wanted to make another rhythm game. Wicked Delights is finally our chance to return to our roots. Through a long process of prototyping our next game, it became clear that the best fit for gameplay was rhythm mechanics. Over time, Wicked Delights evolved into what it is today: visual novel meets rhythm game. We like to call it a rhythm horror game. Basically, a horror narrative that you progress through by completing full song rhythm games, as well as bite sized rhythm elements to spice up the storytelling.
A Love Letter To Our Favorite Genres
Each film and TV show in the game has a distinct art style, lovingly hand crafted. "Let's make a game with five distinct art styles!" We exclaimed, as a small indie game studio. Well... we knew it would mean a ton more work. But we also have genuine love for the genres present in the game, and knew it was the best way to share that love with players.
